چکیده

− This paper describes the design and use of an open Fabry-Perot resonator to evaluate the degree of anisotropy of dielectric material samples at millimeterwaves. The proposed implementation not only allows identifying the orientation of the dielectric principal axes but also determining the complex permittivity values along these axes.

Backward Waves and Negative Refraction in Uniaxial Dielectrics with Negative Dielectric Permittivity along the Anisotropy Axis

Veselago medium (also called double negative material, backward medium, left-handed medium) is a medium with both negative isotropic dielectric permittivity and permeability. It has the effect of backward waves with negative (anomalous) refraction, in contrast to the usual forward waves with normal refraction in normal isotropic dielectrics and/or magnetics. In this paper, examples of the exist...

Permittivity and Measurements

Propagation of electromagnetic (EM) waves in radio frequency (RF) and microwave systems is described mathematically by Maxwell’s equations with corresponding boundary conditions. Dielectric properties of lossless and lossy materials influence EM field distribution. For a better understanding of the physical processes associated with various RF and microwave devices, it is necessary to know the ...

Development of Polymer-based Dielectric Resonator Antennas for Millimeter-wave Applications

The goal of this paper is to use polymer-based materials (instead of hard ceramics) in fabrication of dielectric resonator antennas at millimeter-wave frequencies. The soft nature of polymers facilitates machining of antennas, while the low permittivity of polymers naturally enhances the bandwidth. More importantly, advantageous properties (e.g., flexibility and photosensitivity) of some polyme...

Microwave cavity perturbation studies on H-form and ion- exchanged SCR catalyst materials: correlation of ammonia storage and dielectric properties

Ammonia-based selective catalytic reduction (SCR) has become the major control strategy for NOx emissions from light and heavy duty diesel engines. Before reducing NOx on the SCR active material, ammonia storage on the active sites of the catalyst is crucial. The in operando measurement of the dielectric properties of the catalyst material using microwave cavity perturbation is a promising indi...

Effective dielectric constant of random composite materials

The randomness in the structure of two-component dense composite materials influences the scalar effective dielectric constant, in the quasistatic limit. A numerical analysis of this property is developed in this paper. The computer-simulation models used are based on both the finite element method and the boundary integral equation method for twoand three-dimensional structures, respectively. ...
